They just celebrated it's 15th birthday, yesterday. This DOS based operating system was born on June 28th, 1994 after the project's founder/leader Jim Hall heard that Microsoft was no longer going to support their version of DOS after the release of Windows 95. Jim had a vision of creating a free version of DOS that would not be hinder based on one company's support of the OS, a version that could live on forever.

Here's a quote from Jim Hall himself, ....

"Microsoft will not develop DOS forever, and one cannot count on commercial programming firms such as IBM or Digital to continue DOS"
and it's still in use today. Accroding to this article posted on FreeDos's website, ...
"Today, FreeDOS is used by people all around the world. You can find FreeDOS in many different places: emulators, playing old DOS games, business, ... even bundled with laptops and netbooks: http://technologizer.com/2009/06/23/hps-mini-5101-netbook-deluxe-with-all-the-trimmings/ "
A couple of things that is not mention in the above article is that it can also be found on computers from Dell (although not heavily advertised) and it's often used in embedded systems.

Ahh, the good old days.

Windows and Linux Comparison: Coming Soon

I'm writing up a article comparing Windows and Linux.
